Attachment therapy for sensitive women and femmes in Portland, OR

Are you struggling to feel connected and whole? Do you long to feel belonging and security with others and within yourself? Attachment therapy can help!

If you’re struggling with loneliness, lack of belonging, feeling insecure in yourself, or not feeling safe with others, you’re not alone…

Many of these core painful experiences are actually related to attachment wounds. Attachment is quite the buzz word these days, but what is it really? Attachment is the template we form to understand our earliest experiences in relationship, and what we turn to subconsciously to try to keep ourselves safe within relationship.

If you’re struggling with insecure attachment as an adult, these experiences might sound familiar…

  • You’re trying your hardest in relationships but it never seems to work. Maybe you never had good models of healthy relationship and you don’t know where to start.

  • You do your best to communicate and practice healthy relationship skills but you get attached to others who can’t meet you there, and you can’t walk away.

  • New relationships put you on edge, even if things are going well. You’re always thinking about them or always analyzing what might go wrong.

  • It’s hard to tell the difference between what’s healthy and what’s not. One moment everything seems fine and the next you’re distraught about something that’s just happened, but you can’t tell if your feelings are valid or it’s “just anxiety.”

  • Part of you wants to connect to others but part of you wants to run, avoid, or shuts down.

These experiences leave you feeling like no one understands, no one supports you, and you’re all on you’re own. You might even believe you’re better off on your own.

In therapy, we can re-write these narratives and recreate your templates for relationship with others, and even your relationship with yourself. You can learn to recognize common triggers and relational patterns that send you spiraling. You can learn to identify your needs and speak up for them. You can recalibrate your barometer for what it means to be in healthy relationship, to be treated with respect and be attended to, while also knowing how to self-soothe and tend to yourself. You can recognize the felt emotional state of attachment insecurity, and start to differentiate that from the reality of what’s happening in the here and now. You can learn to take in the support of others, and learn to recognize others who can offer the safety and security you attachment system needs to thrive.
